Hazards
Routes of Entry: Inhalation:YES Skin:YES Ingestion:NO
Reports of Carcinogenicity:NTP:NO IARC:NO OSHA:NO
Health Hazards Acute and Chronic:INHALATION IS THE MAJOR ROUTE OF
EXPOSURE. MINIMUM EFFECTS OBSERVED BELOW 1000 PPM. DIZZINESS,
DROWSINESS, AND THROAT IRRITATION AT LEVELS ABOVE 1000 PPM.
UNCONCIOUSNESS AND DEATH POSSIBLE AT LEVELS A BOVE 10000 PPM.
PROLONGED SKIN CONTACT CAN CAUSE IRRITATION, DEFATTING OF SKIN AND
DERMATITIS. ON EYE CONTACT, LIQUID CAN CAUSE SLIGHT TEMPORARY
IRRITATION WITH SLIGHT TEMPORARY CORNEAL INJURY. IF IN GESTED,
SINGLE DOSE TOXICITY IS LOW TO MODERATE. IF VOMITING OCCURS,
1,1,1-TRICHLOROETHANE CAN BE ASPIRATED INTO THE LUNGS, WHICH CAN
CAUSE CHEMICAL PNEUMONIA AND SYSTEMIC EFFECTS.
Effects of Overexposure:DIZZINESS, DROWSINESS, THROAT IRRITATION AT
LEVEL ABOVE 1000 PPM.
Medical Cond Aggravated by Exposure:ACUTE AND CHRONIC LIVER DISEASE AND
RHYTHM DISORDERS OF THE HEART.
First Aid
First Aid:INHALED: REMOVE TO FRESH AIR. IF BREATHING HAS STOPPED,
ADMINISTER ARTIFICIAL RESPIRATION, CALL A PHYSICIAN. SKIN: REMOVE
CONTAMINATED CLOTHING AND SHOES. WASH EXPOSED AREAS WITH SOAP AND
WATER. WASH CONTAMINATED CLOTHING BEFORE REUSE. EYES: FLUSH EYES
IMMEDIATELY WITH WATER FOR AT LEAST 15 MINUTES. IF IRRITATION
PERSISTS, CALL A PHYSICIAN. INGESTED: DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING.
CONTACT A PHYSICIAN OR EMERGENCY MEDICAL FACILITY IMMEDIATELY.
Fire Fighting
Flash Point Method:TCC
Flash Point:NONE
Lower Limits:7.5
Upper Limits:15.0
Extinguishing Media:WATER,FOAM,DRY CHEMICAL,CARBON DIOXIDE
Unusual Fire/Explosion Hazard:CONCENTRATED VAPORS CAN BE IGNITED BY
HIGH INTENSITY IGNITION SOURCE FIREFIGHTERS SHOULD WEAR
SELF-CONTAINED POSITIVE-PRESSURE BREATHING APPARATUS, DUE TO
THERMAL DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS AND AVOID SKI N CONTACT.
Accidental Release
Spill Release Procedures:EVACUATE THE AREAS. VENTILATE AND AVOID
BREATHING VAPORS. DIKE AREA TO CONTAIN SPILL. IF SPILL OCCURS
INDOORS, TURN OFF AIR CONDITIONING AND/OR HEATING SYSTEM TO PREVENT
VAPORS FROM CONTAMINATING ENTI RE BUILDING. CLEAN UP AREA BY
MOPPING OR WITH ABSORBENT MATERIAL AND PLACE IN CLOSED CONTAINERS
FOR DISPOSAL. DO NOT FLUSH TO SEWER.
Handling
Handling and Storage Precautions:STORE LABELED AND SEALED CONTAINERS IN
A COOL, DRY, WELL-VENTILATED AREA. PREVENT WATER OR MOISTURE FROM
ENTERING STORAGE TANKS OR CONTAINERS. DO NOT CUT OR WELD ON EMPTY
OR FULL DRUMS. ALUMINUM EQUIP MENT SHOULD NOT BE USED FOR STORAGE
OR TRANSFER.
Other Precautions:DO NOT REMOVE OR DEFACE LABEL. DO NOT REUSE DRUM
WITHOUT RECYCLING OR RECONDITIONING IN ACCORDANCE WITH ANY
APPLICABLE FEDERAL, STATE, OR LOCAL LAWS.
Exposure Controls
Respiratory Protection:WHERE VAPOR CONCENTRATION IS LIKELY TO
EXCEED350PPM, A NIOSH/MSHA APPROVED ORGANIC VAPOR TYPE RESPIRATOR
IS ACCEPTABLE. NIOSH/MSHA APPROVED SELF-CONTAINED BREATHING
APPARATUS OR AIR LINE RESPIRATOR, W ITH FULL FACE PIECE IS REQUIRED
FOR CONCENTRATIONS ABOVE 1000PPM AND FOR SPILLS AND EMERGENCIRES.
Ventilation:DO NOT USE IN CLOSED OR CONFINED SPACE.OPEN
WINDOWS/DOORS.USE VENTILATION TO MAINTAIN EXPOSURE LEVELS BELOW 350
PPM.
Protective Gloves:SOLVENT-RESISTANT GLOVES (VITRON,POLYVINYL ALCOHOL,OR
EQUIVALENT)
Eye Protection:CHEMICAL GOGGLES;OR FACE SHIELDS
Other Protective Equipment:SOLVENT RESISTANT BOOTS, APRON, HEADGEAR
AND/OR FACESHIELD IF SPLASHING IS POSSIBLE. SAFETY SHOWER AND
EYEWASH STATION.
Work Hygienic Practices:AVOID CONTACT WITH SKIN AND AVOID BREATHING
VAPORS. DO NOT EAT,DRINK,OR SMOKE IN WORK AREA. WASH HANDSPRIOR TO
EATING,DRINKING,OR USING RESTROOM.
